LIRRC members gather at Jones Beach for the start of the 2006 Ocean-to-Sound Relay. |
||||
Runners prepare for the start of the relay. LIRRC runners, Phil Giackette (L) and Ryan Soltan came in first and third after the first leg. It was the first time in club history that we had a runner hand off first in the relay. Phil's time for the 6-mile leg was 32:50, while Ryan's time was 33:52. |

Left to right: Dawn, Suzanne, Jen, Trisha and Cindy
Led by Jen Campbell, who ran a scorching 6:28 pace for the opening 6-mile leg, our Women's Open team won the Women's Open division for the first time in club history. Jen, Deirdre, Dawn, Suzanne and Cindy ran the relay for the first time for LIRRC and supported by captain, Marlene Miganano, winner of the 2005 Long Island Marathon and LITF runner of the year for 2005, Trisha Fasini. |

Left to right: Ryan, James, Adam, Pete, Brendan and Jordan
A trying day for sure for the Wild Ducks as four members got lost on the course and lost valuable time. But they still managed to pull out a second place finish in the Men's Open and second overall in the race. This was the first time that LIRRC has scored in the men's open division of the relay. First timers on the team were Ryan, Jordan, Adam, Brendan and Adam. Captain Pete Alfano recruited these guys during the summer, and they have been running for the LIRRC men's team ever since. James put aside his coaching duties at Hofstra, our next-door neighbor, to make his third appearance for LIRRC in the relay. Hey guys, have a beer or two at the party, you deserve it. |

Left to right: Mary Grace, Mary, Pam, Jill, Suzanne and Michele
Led by team captain Michele LaBiento, the "Lazy" ducks (as misprinted on the results) were anything but, as veteran relay runners Mary Grace, Mary and Pam were joined by newcomers Jill, Suzanne and super 70-year old Yoshiko to run a spectacular race. |

The Dashing Ducks didn't have their best day, but team captain Juan Oliveras can take heart in the fact that he has introduced four newcomers to the relay--Peter D., Peter K, John, and Jerry--who had a fun day with veterans Dave, Mike, Juan and Jorge. |

Running at right: Dr. Scott Streater (top right) and Ira Kaplan (bottom right).
Led by high-school phenom, Phil Giackette, who handed off the stick in first place, the Last-Minute Ducks unfortunately couldn't keep the lead and finished fourth in the Mixed Open field (incorrectly labeled in the "official" results as a Men's Open team). But this team had two top runners cancel out in the last week, which made things pretty dicey. Thankfully, Shari Levi and Sandra Went-David volunteered to run legs on two different teams. But we only needed Sandra to perform this grueling feat, as newcomer Anthony Randolfi signed on with the team at the last minute. Speaking of newcomers, Lorraine Desposito, long-time club member, finally got her two kids to run the relay with her: Dr. Scott Streater, an Anesthesiologist at Columbia Presbyterian, and Dr. Samantha Streater, ER Doctor at Stony Brook Hospital. Ira Kaplan, another relay first timer rounded out the team. |

This LIRRC team was one of a small group of teams who started at 7:00 am, with team captain Paul Fetscher lining up at the early start. He was joined by newcomers Mary Morein and Rich Lucien and veteran relayers Colin Harris, Sandra Went-David, Kathy Agricola, Rochelle Holden and Dave Philippi. A good time was had by all.
